On leaving home he gains twelve followers, but is persecuted for being just as radical with his message of love and self-divinity as a man from Nazareth over 2,000 years before. Besieged by thousands of protesters on its opening night in Manhattan, four-time Tony award-winner Terrence McNally’s modern-day retelling of the life of Jesus is a provocative yet warm-hearted reflection on the power of faith and spirituality. On the 20th anniversary of the play’s debut, and following their smash-hit productions of A Midsummer Night’s Dream and The Little Prince, Nick Connaughton returns to direct the Arcola Queer Collective.
