Riffing on the zombie-apocalypse film ’28 Days Later’, 28 Days Greater proposes a world of strategic hope and fecundity, rather than chaotic fear and depravity. In 28 two-minute acts of resistance against the narratives of disdain, shame and numbing usually associated with menstruation, Defrin charts her own wild and productive cycle as a harness-able source of nuanced power. Inspired by Alexandra Pope and Sjanie Hugo Wurlitzer’s 2017 book ‘Wild Power’ and director Katie Mitchell’s suggestion to imagine a world in which women were revered and even envied for their menstruating powers, 28 Days Greater investigates the possibilities available in deeper connections to our human nature and how these might inform a greater feminine energy in the socio-political sphere. There will be tap dance, original poetry, and audience banter inspired by brilliant women in history. There will be songs sung in more than one language, and cocktails made for the audience with fresh, but not gratuitous ingredients. There will also be blood.* *Just kidding, probably not.
