In 1992, contemporary artist Rirkrit Tiravanija created an artwork called Untitled (Free/Still), where he cooked a Thai green curry and served it up to gallery visitors. He said that the curry is not the art, but the people eating it. He also said that he doesn’t much care about the authenticity of the curry – whatever ingredients are on hand will do. Ben Kulvichit is a Thai-British artist, just starting out. In Gaeng Kiew Waan, Ben will host you as he recreates Rirkrit’s piece. This warm and gently searching piece of theatre asks how we go about living authentically, why we make art, and whether it’s possible to cook yourself home.
