peasant / virgin / maid / warrior / heretic / witch / saint Like a butterfly pinned to a collector’s board, Joan of Arc dies by categorisation. She’s a rotating kaleidoscope of images, but whenever someone writes her story down, she’s limited, defined. We say she was all of them and more. We’re here to set Joan free from written history and make our lady mercurial. We might resurrect some cultural Joans. We might hold a séance. We might write a little history of our own. Tapping in to the medieval, the mystic of Joan’s mileu, Saint Somebody is a devised work-in-progress about women on trial and the dangers of myth-making, the difference between body and body text, and the fear of the undefinable woman.
