About Spider

When ex-snooker champion and ex-drinker Terry " the Wanderer" Hands instructs his 8-yr-old son Jason in the art of the game he feels he invented, he has unwittingly unleashed a more cynical breed of player. For " the King of the Green Baize" , snooker is a beautiful drama which got blokes like him from going down the pit; for Jason it is a lucrative gap year diversion. Spider is a play about a toxic father/son relationship; jealousy; grouse whiskey and Tupperware, all set around the shining Steel City of Sheffield. Playwright Joanne Bhouri graduated in 2018 from Central Saint Martins with a degree in Dramatic Writing. She has won a number of short play contests, most notably the inaugural one act competition at Cast, Doncaster and as part of the podcast festival with Tamasha Theatre. Her work has also been workshopped at the Rose Theatre, Kingston. From South Yorkshire, a current trio of plays have addressed life in small Yorkshire towns, using the dialect , rich language and sense of humour of the North and the universality of personal situations and problems.
