Alex is 5. He’s just started school. He’s just been called a faggot. He doesn’t know what that means. He’s only interested in Pokémon and Ricky Martin – obviously.

About In The Beginning

Alex is 25. He’s in therapy. He’s told he has depression and anxiety - obviously. He doesn’t know how he got here. Or who he is. If he is anything at all. Blending drag, poetry, music, movement, and theatre, IN THE BEGINNING asks how we can rewrite our futures by reclaiming our pasts. A sweeping exploration of a queer rural East Lancashire origin story, Alex attempts to find the beginning of his life as he knows it. This could get messy… IN THE BEGININNG is a show about the power of connection and communication, the effect of isolation and rejection, and how we all have the power to start over. Performer & writer Alex Marlow is joined by director Deirdre McLaughlin, movement director Sally Lofthouse, and dramaturg David Loumgair.
