About Theatre and the Environment

This talk will reflect on why it is also crucial to revisit familiar texts, rereading them from an ecological perspective so that we might establish setting – and what this tells us about any play's environment and natural world – as an essential consideration. Vicky Angelaki is Associate Professor of Theatre at the University of Reading. Her research and teaching focus on contemporary drama, literature, society and politics, and on eco-criticism across different literary, theatre and performance genres from the 19th century to the present. Major publications include the books Theatre & Environment (2019), Social and Political Theatre in 21st-Century Britain: Staging Crisis (2017), Contemporary British Theatre: Breaking New Ground (2013) and The Plays of Martin Crimp: Making Theatre Strange (2012).
