This talk will reflect on why it is also crucial to revisit familiar texts, rereading them from an ecological perspective so that we might establish setting – and what this tells us about any play's environment and natural world – as an essential consideration. Vicky Angelaki is Associate Professor of Theatre at the University of Reading. Her research and teaching focus on contemporary drama, literature, society and politics, and on eco-criticism across different literary, theatre and performance genres from the 19th century to the present. Major publications include the books Theatre & Environment (2019), Social and Political Theatre in 21st-Century Britain: Staging Crisis (2017), Contemporary British Theatre: Breaking New Ground (2013) and The Plays of Martin Crimp: Making Theatre Strange (2012).
