Intense, compelling and coruscating, the play cleverly muses about the existence of an authentic ‘me’, particularly one struggling to emerge because it has never felt truly seen. Addiction alters how the brain works; the physical symptoms can be addressed but whether the ‘me’ that emerges is a true one is moot. The self flaying in the face of an uncaring universe and then the flaying of the self in the face of rejection are brutal. Anchored by a virtuosic central performance, some reveals in the final sections draw genuine gasps. Self-acceptance of our messy selves is the only solution.Read more →
