The Book of Mormon tells the story of two earnest young Mormon missionaries, Elder Kevin Price and Elder Arnold Cunningham. Dispatched to a small town in Uganda to spread the word of the Latter Day Saints, they’re walloped by culture shock and end up in a showdown with a tyrannical warlord. The duo are forced to confront their own beliefs before they can win the day, not to mention facing off with famine, poverty and AIDS. It may not sound like the stuff of uproarious comedy, but in the hands of spectacularly snarky South Parkers Parker and Stone, that’s exactly what it is. Nine 2011 Tony Awards say The Book Of Mormon is the Best Musical of the Year. Vogue says, “It's the funniest musical of all time.” The New York Times says, “It's the best musical of this century.”
The Book of Mormon continues to impress London audiences right at the Prince of Wales Theatre. Being a winner of nine 2011 Tony Awards along with abundant sensational reviews and sell-out shows under its belt, The Book of Mormon tickets remain amongst the hottest in the West End.
Elder Price is a rising star amongst his church community, with everyone speaking and expecting highly of this bright young Mormon. When it is about time for him to embark on his mission given by the church elders, his hopes of jetting off to Orlando are dashed when he is instead sent to Uganda. Not only that, he happened to be paired with Elder Cunningham, whose challenging personality quirks and poor understanding of the church’s teachings don’t make him an ideal companion for a mission.
Their task is to educate and convert villagers to join the Mormon church, but little did they know that they will soon be faced with a challenging, unexpected warlord.
