The weather is going to have to buck up if audiences sitting in Regent’s Park really are to believe they are in St. Tropez, but I think that we can be confident that outgoing artistic director Timothy Sheader—shortly off to the Donmar—is going to turn up the heat on Harvey Fierstein and Jerry Herman’s comedy musical and milk it for everything it’s got. Which is quite a lot, including some brilliant songs such as the anthem I Am What I Am. This should be the summer pick-me-up we all need.
"The best of times are now" with this glorious musical revival of Jerry Herman and Harvey Fierstein's 'La Cage aux Folles'. Georges, Albin and their son Jean-Michel re-discover the true meaning of family, and of putting yourself last so that the ones you love can come first. With a book by Harvey Fierstein and music and lyrics by Jerry Herman, La Cage aux Folles is based on the play by Jean Poiret, and includes the classic songs ‘I Am What I Am’ and ‘The Best of Times’. Directed by Timothy Sheader. Age Recommendation: 12+
