About Mirror Mirror

Upon discovering technical difficulties with her Reflexotronics mirror, a worn woman past her prime seeks appraisal from a robotic Mirror Technician. Mirror Mirror is futuristic drama about aesthetics and how relying on physical beauty to determine your own self-worth inevitably leads to downfall. After a successful run in Hampstead with full audiences for two-thirds of the shows, Pentameters Theatre’s production of Mirror Mirror seeks to bring Robert Calvert’s work to a central London venue. This production will coincide with the publishing of his life works and aims to celebrate the friendship he shared with Hampstead local Léonie Scott-Matthews. Mirror Mirror was written in 1979 by Robert Calvert (lead singer of Hawkwind) who spent many years developing his poetry and plays with Léonie Scott-Matthews, Artistic Director and Founder of Pentameters Theatre. The 2019 revival production at Pentameters Theatre celebrated Calvert’s artistic achievements through personal stories shared by Scott-Matthews, live music by/inspired by Hawkwind, and the integration of Calvert’s published and unpublished poetry within the play. This revival coincided with 30 years since his death, the news of a Robert Calvert Anthology being published later this year by Chris Purdon, and the Hawkwind 50th Anniversary Tour concluding at the Royal Albert Hall
