A new show from Forced Entertainment is always an event, but you will have to get your skates on because there are currently only three London dates for this latest piece which takes the form of a silent comic-tragedy performed by a troupe of deranged clowns. FE’s work has always walked the line between the hilarious and the totally unfunny and interrogated the structures that we cling too even as they fall down around our ears. Expect fights, music, sweat and bright lights as the company explore what happens when established systems break down. Could be the most pertinent show of the month.
Southbank Centre Associate Company Forced Entertainment present the UK premiere of their new group piece Out of Order. Carefully unbalanced between funny and not funny, it presents the ruins of a show in the ruins of a world. Old music plays on loop – the wrong kind, but no one seems to mind. Rehearsing old gags and getting tangled in new ones, the clowns fight and chase in eruptions of uneasy mayhem. Violence and posturing, high jinks and clown-on-clown comical capers give way to bickering, exhaustion, hunger, melancholy and silence. The clock ticks. The music swells to repeated climax. Highly regarded for pushing the boundaries of what theatre can be, Forced Entertainment reimagine the circus clown in six figures set swirling on the stage. Age Recommendation: 16+
