Pubs which have stood on the same spot for generations are disappearing all over the UK where often they are turned into flats as part of gentrification. For the latest play from Anna Jordan—who won the Bruntwood Prize for Yen and has written episodes of both Killing Eve and Succession—the Bunker theatre will be turned into a pub complete with pints and karaoke. The Bunker’s Chris Sonnex directs a play which takes place as the regulars gather to toast the pub that has been a second home to them but is about to call last orders for the final time.

About We Anchor in Hope

All over London public houses become private flats. Tomorrow The Anchor closes for good. It’s the end of an era, but Kenny and the gang are going out with a bang. There’s a blow-up sheep, karaoke and a lot of Campari. There’s secrets and grudges and forgotten dreams. As the front doors are locked and the bar is drunk dry, there’s a lot more to lose than just a pub.
