Strong, powerful and dynamic women are caught up in love that will sap both their identity and their agency; for them, love proves fundamentally unkind…. HGO’s new double-bill production of John Blow’s ‘Venus and Adonis’ and Henry Purcell’s ‘Dido and Aeneas’ explores the darkness and sorrow that can brew in the heart of love and passion, as revealed by these one-act Baroque masterpieces interpreted by Jessica Dalton's magical production. With baroque orchestra accompaniment provided by HGOAntiqua Orchestra under musical director Seb Gillot, HGO's production features as always some of the country's most talented young opera singers.
