Save London, one drop at a time: Lewisham MP Alan Powell is the paragon of virtue, fighting to save the city in the midst of a water emergency and political storm. But when Alan dies unexpectedly, his three daughters (Rhu, Tess and Eve) must deal with his loss, legacy and the ever mounting London water shortage. When their father’s murderer is found, the truth begins to leak and a conspiracy grows. Will this family stay together as the world around them changes? England is predicted to lose access to drinkable water within the next 25 years. Strongly inspired by the Cape Town 2018 water crisis, SALT occurs in a future where our most important resource is running out. SALT was shortlisted for Theatre 503’s 2020 International Playwriting Award and longlisted for both Matchstick Theatre Company and 2021 Papatango New Writing Award. Writer Magdalene Bird (Cambridge Junction; ITV; BFI), director Laura Clifford (The Bush Theatre; The National Youth Theatre; White Bear Theatre) and producer Jake Curran-Pipe (Pleasance Theatre; Omnibus Theatre; Theatre 503; The Space) bring the water crisis to the stage, illuminating solutions and sparking hope in a dark future.
