About They

Spika, a famous actress and her lover Balandash, a wealthy art connoisseur are arguing about the future of theatre and art, and about the superiority of one sex over another. Next door, the mysterious THEY, a secret government is preparing to attack. About to unleash their diabolical, totalitarian plan to destroy free art and theatre — starting with Spika and Balandash. ABOUT THE AUTHOR: S.I. Witkiewicz was a famous, leading avant-garde Polish artist and writer from the interwar Poland. He was a playwright, novelist, painter and philosopher, considered by some scholars to be a precursor of the Theatre of the Absurd in Europe. The play "They" was written in 1920 as a reaction to the October Socialist Revolution led by the Bolshevik party of Vladimir Lenin. After hearing the news of the Soviet invasion of Poland on 17 September 1939, Witkacy committed suicide on 18 September. He is considered to be prophetic.
