About Blow: A Deaf Girl's Fight

A Deaf girl fights prejudice in a tough 80s boxing gym. Part immersive. Part musical. Blow challenges how we treat d/Deaf and disabled people on stage, screen, and life. Blow is co-written by Libby Welsh, a profoundly deaf 20-year-old actor and dancer, and Offie-nominated director Jack Silver. It was a finalist for Pleasance Theatre's Charlie Hartill Award in 2019. Libby has been profoundly deaf since the age of 4 and uses cochlear implants. She appeared in Stephen Poliakoff’s Summer of Rockets on BBC2, and is the lead in multi-award winning fantasy short film Alder. She’s studying dance at Trinity Laban. Jack is Artistic Director of Tramp. He directed a semi-immersive version of Confessional by Tennessee Williams (“A mini-masterpiece of Theatre” **** The Stage) at Edinburgh Fringe and Southwark Playhouse, staring Lizzie Stanton (Book of Monsters) and Rob Ostlere (Holby City, Game of Thrones). The show picked up Offie nominations for Best Director and Best Set Design and broke the box office record for Southwark’s studio space, The Little. 15+ Tags: Access & Disability, Immersive, New Writing *Contains strong language, and short scenes of physical violence and sexual assault
