Patrick Hamilton’s powerful psychological drama. A young woman, Bella Manningham, becomes increasingly uncertain of her own sanity, under pressure from her handsome, charismatic husband. A stranger arrives, saying he is there to help her - but can she trust him? Will she find the strength to break free? The play was ahead of its time (1938) in exploring coercive control - the intimate and subtle form of abuse recently highlighted in Radio 4’s The Archers. The title gave rise to the modern concept of ‘gaslighting’. Director Richard Beecham returns to bring a fresh theatrical energy to this gripping and suspenseful thriller, with an all-female team. Richard’s production of Broken Glass by Arthur Miller at Watford Palace Theatre in 2018 was nominated for 4 Off West-End Awards, including Best Director, and had a wonderful response from audiences.
