About Kinky Boots

Step into Spring 2026 in style! The multi-award-winning musical KINKY BOOTS returns to London in a dazzling new production, starring Strictly Come Dancing’s Johannes Radebe. This celebrated West End and Broadway hit struts into the stunning London Coliseum from March 2026 for a strictly limited season.

The Story Unfolds: Origins and Evolution

Based on an uplifting true story and the much-loved 2005 film, KINKY BOOTS follows Charlie Price, a young man struggling to save his family’s failing shoe factory. With the future looking bleak, a chance encounter with Lola – a fabulous drag queen in need of sturdy stilettos – sets them both on a journey that’s as unexpected as it is life-affirming. Together, they hatch a bold plan to reinvent the business by stepping into a niche market: glamorous footwear for men.

The musical first opened on Broadway in 2013 and took the world by storm with its infectious score by pop icon Cyndi Lauper – earning her a Tony and Grammy Award – and a witty, heartfelt book by Tony Award winner Harvey Fierstein. It premiered in the West End in 2015, where it won the Olivier Award for Best New Musical. Hit songs include “Raise You Up,” “Sex is in the Heel,” and the anthemic “Just Be.”

Behind the Scenes: Crafting the Spectacle

The origins of KINKY BOOTS trace back to a 1999 episode of BBC2’s Trouble at the Top, which chronicled the real-life story of Steve Pateman, who transformed his family shoe factory by producing fetish footwear for men under the brand name Divine Footwear.

This vibrant new 2026 London production is directed by Nikolai Foster (Grease, The Wizard of Oz) and stars Strictly Come Dancing’s Johannes Radebe as Lola. The original Broadway and West End runs earned multiple awards and captivated audiences with their celebration of acceptance, identity, and fabulous footwear.
