About A Streetcar Named Desire

Oscar nominee Paul Mescal (Aftersun, Normal People) stars alongside Patsy Ferran (Summer and Smoke) and Anjana Vasan (We Are Lady Parts) in the West End transfer of the Almeida Theatre's monumental new production, directed by the Olivier Award-winning Rebecca Frecknall (Cabaret).

The Story Unfolds: Origins and Evolution

On a street in New Orleans running between the tracks of the Mississippi River, in the blistering summer heat, a sister spirals.

Former Southern Belle Blanche Du Bois unexpectedly visits her estranged sister Stella. After encountering a series of personal losses, she brings with her a past that will threaten their future. As Stella's husband, Stanley Kowalski, gets closer to the truth and rumours begin to circulate, Blanche's world begins to crumble. The truth is very close to being revealed. Reality and illusion collide, and a violent conflict changes their lives forever.

Behind the Scenes: Crafting the Spectacle

A Streetcar Named Desire was written by Tennessee Williams and first performed on Broadway on December 3, 1947. It was Tennessee Williams' second big Broadway hit. The 1951 film adaptation starring Marlon Brando and Vivien Leigh earned Brando his very first Oscar nomination.

Now, starring Olivier Award winner Paul Mescal and Critics Circle winner Patsy Ferran, the Tennessee Williams classic returns to London.

Keep in Mind

Tennessee Williams' classic A Streetcar Named Desire is brought to life on stage by Olivier Award-winning Rebecca Frecknall. Don't miss out.
