About The Oresteia

Writer and director, Simon Stone in collaboration with the same creative team behind The Lady from the Sea, presents The Oresteia. A contemporary family trapped in a Greek mythology, with no way out from their predetermined destiny. The Oresteia was first performed in Athens in 458 BCE, written by the father of tragedy himself, Aeschylus. The tragedy follows the House of Atreus, where returning conqueror Agamemnon is murdered by his wife Clytemnestra, who is then killed by their son Orestes in a vengeful quest. Orestes is hunted by the Furies for his crime, and brought to justice by the goddess Athena, who establishes a court of law to judge the crime.
