About The Standard of Living

Producers Brian & Dayna Lee and Nicholas Hytner present the world premiere of The Standard of Living, a new play by James Graham, starring Rory Kinnear as John Maynard Keynes. The production stars Rory Kinnear as John Maynard Keynes, the pioneering British economist who helped reshape modern financial systems and was a central figure in the Bloomsbury Group of writers and artists in early 20th-century London. Directed by Nicholas Hytner, the play explores Keynes’s world between the corridors of power in Whitehall and the radical artistic circle that surrounded him, including dancer Lydia Lopokova, a principal influence in his life and work. The Standard of Living runs for a strict 12-week engagement at the Theatre Royal Haymarket from 21st September. Set against economic collapse and cultural revolution, it asks what a good life really means—and whether art, love and human connection can reshape the future.
