This was brilliant&Broadway standard, as implied. Kelli O'Hara amazing as Anna (didn't think anyone could match Deborah Kerr, but she pretty much did)&Ken Watanabe surprisingly delightful as the King. The Palladium is a theatre that seems always to be cursed with loud audiences, which isn't the show's fault, obviously, but some scenes were spoilt for me i.e. Shall We Dance when people started clapping along. Stop! Some accents were a little shaky&i'm never keen on Dean John-Wilson's singing sharp, but otherwise pretty bulletproof&really enjoyed, despite chatting/phones/rustling 🐘Read more →

Really disappointed with the quality of the production, special effects limited to a smoke machine. Felt more like a panto (mind you we enjoyed the panto in Bournemouth more recently) or low budget rather than a west end production. Shall not be recommending this to family and friends:(
This was shocking, after reading other reviews and the banners at the theatre “breathtaking, remarkable, exquisite” and the biggest statement across the door “doubt I’ll ever see a better production in my lifetime”
Not as advertised, where or how do I get my money refunded… :(Read more →

Terrific to reacquaint oneself with this musical that could be cloying but comes up bandbox fresh. It is simply staged and contains enough gorgeously cute children to go ‘aaah’ for a month. It does contain wonderful central performances especially from the marvellous Kelli O’Hara and Ken Watanabe as well. Amongst the well known singalong tunes like ‘whistle a happy tune’ and ‘shall we dance’, it also springs a surprise with ‘Something Wonderful’, one of Rogers and Hammerstein’s greatest songs. Highly recommended.Read more →

Majestic production Remember seeing Yul Bryne at the Palladium many years ago and the great Elaine Page twenty years ago both in excellent productions but this is the best production I have seen and the two leads are real stars. Doubt if you will see a better production of this musicalRead more →

It was an enjoyable performance. Fab costumes, great voices, good set design (some parts were excellent). Just didn’t get any chemistry between Anna and the King. They were both amazing in their own right. King was played so well as was Anna. Just didn’t see a spark between them.Read more →

I grew up with The King and I. I know the script word-for-word so it was such a thrill to see it on the last day of showing. The whole cast was superb. Bravo!Read more →
