Might be a good play, might not, but I sure as **** hated it. This is my 3rd attempt at David Mamet and i've had it. To me, he's the same as Pinter: they lovvvve their middle-aged men in power, giving one-dimensional women rubbish roles. John Malkovich was obvi amazing but no one else stood out & referring to a piece about abuse in Hollywood as a 'farce' is so unbelievably self-indulgent, it makes my stomach churn. Written by Mamet "in a good mood" - ugh. Funny how a campaign allowing women's voices to be heard is actually strengthening men's voices, like Barney Fein, our "hero"? See ya never, Mamet 🙅🏽‍♀️Read more →

John Malkovich perfect in this role and the supporting cast were also strong. We did find it funny too although the subject will not be to everyone’s liking.Read more →

Having skimmed the first night ratings I was somewhat apprehensive. As it turned out, it's fine. It lampoons a highly arrogant, self-absorbed, self-deluded but powerful man and is quite funny. Maybe the reviewers were expecting a deeply serious vilification but I don't see how that could do justice to the horror of the man (or it's had a heavy rewrite). Malkovich is great.Read more →

Pure evil. Pure fun. Don't look much beyond having a really fun night and you won't be disappointed. Barney is evil, racist, sexist and completely unapologetic. John Malkovich is hilarious. I can only suppose that all the 1 and 2 stars from the critics came as they were expecting some reflections on society that are absolutely absent.Read more →

The comic pace picks up after two chances of scene, with viewers increasingly invited to laugh at the unrepentant protagonist, rather than at his jokes. Some great lines about rehabilitation and weight loss. Elegant set design.Read more →

The only reason for seeing this play is for Malkovich, who is always charismatic. As for the rest, it is uneven, trivial, at times embarrassing, always superficial. It ends without fanfare in mid-sentence after a mercifully short second half.Read more →

Seeing all these bad reviews I almost gave up my super expensive pre-booked tickets, so I had zero expectation.. decent acting, sometimes the pacing feels not right. It’s a no depth comedy with some bits I really disapprove but! I think the 3rd scene from the 1st act is very worth watching.Read more →

Great performance by John Malkovich. Witty dialogue but kind of a basic story and plot. Enjoyable but nothing more than that.Read more →
