In many ways, Operation Mincemeat is just like your typical West End musical - high energy, show-stopping numbers, clear (even if somewhat predictable) structure. It gets that part right. But it truly shines in those most unexpected moments that push the boundaries of the musical form. Thrilling, surprising, and hilarious with a comedic self-awareness and committed performances that will give the audience a bang for their buck, this is a tale about silly intelligence officers told brilliantly through intelligent silliness. The convoluted but ultimately successful scheme spawned a 1956 film “The Man Who Never Was”. On stage, the facts are retold and subjected to a comedy musical treatment - with a cast of 5 exuberant and energetic actors covering multiple roles in the uber-pacy caper. Lightning-fast costume changes and a dazzling array of props further enhance the antics. It’s all terribly tongue-in-cheek with a chocks-away-wing-commander kinda stiffness of the British upper lip variety, which barely lets-up from the get-go, demonstrating that small can be beautiful, frivolous and hugely entertaining.Read more →

This ‘off West-end’ bijou musical shows the bigger glittery expensive offers on current show what a group of very talented people can do. What appears on paper to be unpromising material kept a smile on the receptive packed house’s collective face. And with all terrific musicals it had a stunning quiet and intensely moving song at its centre during which one could have heard a pin drop.
