A fantastic retelling of a timeless tale that makes you feel every emotion in the spectrum, from love to sadness to disgust and disbelief. Highly recommend.Read more →

Music’s fab; but as a show attempting to enkindle a raucous, gig-like feeling in its audience, there’s no way that it should have been in the Olivier — the size of the space makes the performer-audience distance to great to achieve that. Some fantastic staging, but also some thoughtless staging. Hades was marvellous, Persephone seemed tired; Orpheus has a weird breathy rock-affectation (but a phenomenal falsetto), but Eurydice was excellent, with a beautiful voice. Overall disappointing waste of excellent musical material.Read more →

Great songs and a great book looking at the current world through an old tale! Wonderful staging and choreography. Enjoyful performance.Read more →

Fresh score and mainly fantastic cast sing through essentially a studio album. The set is highly imaginative and effective, and the show feels extremely original. Although it can’t help feeling like a concert at times, going from track to track instead of story beat to beat.Read more →
Mesmerising songs and beautiful performances. Eva Noblezada is dazzling but the staging and choreography is what makes this show stand out.Read more →

We’re not huge fans of musicals, and there is no great depth in Hadestown, but we found ourselves carried along by the music and staging. We also enjoyed the performances of Patrick Page as Hades and Amber Grey as Persephone.Read more →

Hadestown blew me away. Ingenious staging, a (mostly) knockout cast and beautiful music, giving depth to this ancient myth. Special props to Amber Gray and Eva Noblezada who stole the show as Persephone and Eurydice respectively.Read more →
Musicals really aren't my thing but this was sensational, much in the way that Girl From The North Country stepped away from the genre standard. It's hard to find much that's not to love about this; great set, fabulous band, strong cast (including the chorus), and additional musical numbers to the 2010 studio album. Having had the original album for years I did wonder how the production would compare and I think it surpasses it. The blend of voices is quite amazing. Special mentions to Andre De Shields and Amber Gray for providing extra cool and sass as Hermes and Persephone. GO !Read more →

When you go watching something at Olivier theatre you know it's going to be amazing. This show confirms the rule. This is a musical revisitation of Orpheus and Eurydice's tragedy on jazzy- blues - rock music. It's a truly grandious show that is impossible not to love.Read more →
